About Daniala Weir
Dr. Daniala Weir is an Assistant Professor of Real-World Evidence in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology at Utrecht University, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo. Her program of research focuses on improving the safety and effectiveness of medications for individuals living with multimorbidity across the continuum of care using real-world data. Dr. Weir’s work is guided by unmet patient and physician needs in drug safety and prescribing. She applies advanced quantitative methods from epidemiology, biostatistics, and machine learning to address clinically relevant problems that impact patients in everyday practice. She collaborates closely with biostatisticians, data scientists, pharmacists, physicians, software developers, and IT specialists, and engages patients and caregivers to ensure a patient-centered approach. Through this collaborative model, Dr. Weir effectively connects advanced quantitative methods with clinical decision-making and patient care. Her research draws on multiple sources of real-world data across Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, including hospital clinical data, administrative health databases, and electronic health records, to evaluate and improve medication safety and prescribing in complex patient populations
