About Chahinda Ghossein

Dr. Ghossein-Doha is a cardiologist in the final year of her training and post doctoral fellow at Maastricht University and Erasmus MC. Alongside her clinical speciality training in cardiology, she is actively involved in several national and international studies aiming to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in women by using new concepts on the crossroad of cardiology and gynaecology. She received several personal Grants and prizes including two times the Kootstra talent Fellowship (2014/2018), Mosaic NWO grant (2016), Innovation fund NHS (2017) and the `Education Prize` for best university teacher in Medicine at Maastricht University and was appointed as a visiting professor at the University of Brescia, Italy. She has over 80 publications, received over 2 million euros funding and is frequently invited as a keynote speaker to international conferences and co-wrote several medical textbooks.

In 2016, she was appointed as Guest Editor of a special issue on maternal hemodynamics of the “Journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics” and in 2022 for the special issue of “Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine” on hypertensive pregnancy diseases. She supervised four PhD students to completion (as co-promoter), and currently supervises seven PhD students in Maastricht University, Brescia University (Italy) and Hasselt University (Belgium).

Ghossein-Doha is founder and chair of the Queen of Hearts foundation to improve awareness on cardiovascular disease in women. Ghossein-Doha takes an active role in distributing her research to the general public and keeps receiving widespread media awareness. She is regularly invited to participate in interviews (tv, radio, newsletters and magazines). She published her Book “'Queen of Hearts: de Kracht van Kwetsbaarheid” which she initiated to raise awareness on the impact of pregnancy complications on women and launched its publication in the Dutch talkshow “Jinek” on October 26th 2020. Last but not least, she is honoured with the award of “woman of the year 2022” in Limburg for her scientific and societal contribution to improve women’s health.
