About Leiden Drug Development Conference

The development and production of medicines in the Benelux has always been followed with great interest, with the Covid-19 pandemic placing it in the spotlight. In recent years it has become eminent that the availability of medicines cannot always be guaranteed. For example, due to the dependence on long supply lines as a result of the relocation of production to low-wage countries. The Netherlands has dropped on the innovation lists, which makes it less attractive to establish R&D/production here.

The Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP) has grown into the largest LSH cluster in the Netherlands and also has a strong international position. The diversity of parties - including research and educational institutions, an academic hospital and a selection of starters and internationally active companies that focus on health in general and drug development in particular - forms a unique innovation district. The park is integrated in the landscape of education, business, healthcare and science in the province of South Holland. During the Leiden Drug Development Conference (LDDC) we hope to discuss the complexity of the development, production and distribution of medicines. We also show how the basic knowledge, the applied knowledge, the production facilities and the required collaboration are represented in the Leiden Bio Science Park.
