How to build a career in R&D with a Master's degree

There are more or less usual ways to build a career in R&D. Aiming to do that with only a Master's degree is more an exception than a rule. Especially if you do it with work experience in the pharmaceutical industry from a non-EU country. Additionally, possible professions in the pharmaceutical sector you could aim for after getting either Bachelor's or Master's degree are in the spotlight. Sharing professional learnings from navigating through professional experiences is the main focus of this session.
Hanna Yendzhyievska | Senior Associate Scientist and Team Lead | Janssen Vaccines & Prevention
Hanna Yendzhyievska is a Senior Associate Scientist and Team Lead in Janssen focused on development of bacterial vaccines to combat disease caused by antibiotic-resistant germs.
Beginning with her internship position she was eager to explore her career in industry setup. Hanna has started as Junior associate scientist part-time in R&D focused on late development for small molecules while finishing her Master degree. After graduation she continued broadening her horizons in analytical chemistry for the pharmaceutical industry. In 2016 Hanna took a role of Senior Scientist of method transfer group in QC working as mediator between R&D and QC to ensure a designed analytical methods applicable to production environment. In three years she was promoted to a position of Head of Analytical chemistry department. In 2019 she transitioned to the discovery part of R&D by accepting an offer from CLS Services to join Bacterial Vaccines department in Janssen in 2019 as Associate Scientist for conjugation. Broadening her expertise in liquid chromatography along with setting up a crucial formulation preparation team for animal experiments she was promoted to a Team Lead position in 2022.
