Nico Schiettekatte | Counselor for Health, Welfare & Sport, Dutch Embassy in Beijing

Nico H. Schiettekatte, M.A., is since 2020 the Counselor for Health, Welfare and Sport at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Beijing, liaising with the Chinese Government and Chinese private sector in health, welfare and sport.

Previously, Mr. Schiettekatte was Head of the Economic Department and Counselor for Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Paris, France, from 2017-2020 representing Dutch economic interests, specifically STI, in France.

Prior to that he was diplomatic Counselor for Science, Technology & Innovation in Brazil from 2014 to 2017, working a.o. on healthy aging, medtech, ehealth, oncology and chronical diseases. Mr. Schiettekatte was Manager at the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EA) & Climate Policy of the Netherlands between 2009 and 2014. During this period he took responsibility in the policy fields of innovation, technology (applied) research, industry and entrepreneurship.

His specific expertise is in public private partnerships, including in setting up science & technology parks in the medical sector. Prior to his career at the Ministry of EA & Climate Policy that started in 2001, Mr. Schiettekatte worked in a consultancy company in Brussels, from 1997-2001, as Deputy Director. In that position, he was responsible for technical assistance projects commissioned by the European Commission and other IFIs such as the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank. He is trained in international politics, economics, law and key enabling technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.
