About Marlies Schijven | Full Professor of Surgery, Principal Educator and Principal Investigator, AMC

Professor Marlies Schijven (born in 1969) is a surgeon in the Amsterdam UMC, and researches the field of Digital Health. Next to being a surgeon, she is Principle Investigator, Principle Education and University Chair in the areas of simulation, serious gaming and applied mobile healthcare. She is the current Program Chair on e-Health of the Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres (NFU), and leading the Digital Health Research program in the Amsterdam UMC. 

Prof. Schijven is known for her publications in the area of digital health, surgery (achalasia and reflux disease), m-health, e-health, wearable technology, medical education and simulation technology. She is an expert in the area of medical data recording, situational awareness in the operating room, virtual reality medical simulation, serious gaming, wearables, validation studies and validation processes; and has guided many PhD residents on these topics.
