About Hans Clevers | Past-President, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) (2012-2015)

Hans Clevers studied medicine and biology, taking his doctorate at Utrecht University in 1985 and going on to carry out postdoctoral work at Harvard. From 1991 to 2002, he was professor of immunology at the UMC-U, where he has been professor of molecular genetics since 2002. From 2002 to 2012, he was the director of the Hubrecht Institute, one of the seventeen KNAW institutes. Prof. Clevers set up the research organization of the Princes Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology from 2015-2019. His work has been recognized by multiple international awards. He currently runs research groups at the Hubrecht Institute and the Maxima Center. He is honorary professor at Central South University in Changsha, at HongKong University and at Fudan University, Shanghai, all in China.
